Teach tai chi in nature, Buxton festival

There's something special about practising Tai Chi outdoors.

One of the things I love most about teaching Tai Chi is taking it outdoors.

This August, I'll be leading a woodland Tai Chi session as part of Buxton Opera House's Outdoor Opera House Festival, introducing people to this gentle practice in one of the most beautiful classrooms imaginable, among the trees.

When we practise Tai Chi in nature, something changes.

The rhythm of the breath begins to match the rhythm of the natural world. The sound of birdsong replaces background noise. The connection of the feet to the earth.

For me, Tai Chi has never just been about learning movements.

It's about discovering a different way of moving through life, with better balance, greater body awareness, a calmer mind, and a deeper connection to the present moment.

Whether I'm teaching complete beginners, experienced practitioners, healthcare professionals, or combining Tai Chi with mindfulness, my hope is always the same: to help people move with more ease, confidence, and joy.

Sometimes, all it takes is one gentle movement to change how you feel.
